Q. Why should I choose the Buck Baker Racing School?
A. Buck Baker Racing School has been in business for nearly 30 years. We were the 1st NASCAR type school in the business, so we have the expertise. It is this expertise that Buck used to train Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jeff Burton, Ricky Craven, and Brendan Gaughan, just to name a few. We don't use pace cars and passing is allowed in a safe manner. We have programs to offer to everyone!
Q. How fast will I go?
A. Our race cars are actual NASCAR Sprint Cup Ford, Chevy and Dodge Race Cars that have seen competition. They weigh 3,400 lbs, and the engines are 358ci and have 500hp to 630hp (A little less than a race day motor but we need them to last more than 500 miles! Believe me, they have more power than you will ever use!). We focus on driving technique, not speed. Anyone can hammer a car down the straights, but it takes technique to master the high banked turns in order to save time and beat the competition. The cars are capable of 160mph+ at Atlanta and Lowes, 150mph+ at Darlington, 135mph at Rockingham, and 110mph at Bristol.
Q. How long will I be at the track?
A. We have the track from hours ranging from 8:00 a.m. till 11:30 p.m. (depending on the track and the event). Plan on being at the track most of the day or night session. Enjoy your time with the Buck Baker Racing School. We are all here to enjoy and share this event together. If you have made previous plans for the same day as your event takes place, please let Allie know before the classroom session begins at time of check-in. Please be at the track 30 to 45 minutes prior to the start of class.
Q. What happens if it rains?
A. An event may be cancelled or postponed due to weather conditions, Buck Baker Racing School will be at the track regardless of the weather. We will make a decision based on the severity of the weather. Events have continued for the entire day despite a 70 percent chance of rain that never occurred. Because students join us from many parts of the country and world, we make every effort to make an event happen. You have the option to call ahead and reschedule your date if you do not want to chance the weather. Rain-out events must reschedule within one year of rain-out date.
Q. Buck Baker Racing School cancellations or schedule changes.
A. We try not to have to cancel any event date, but some circumstances are beyond our control and we will have to change a scheduled date. If you have already been scheduled for an event and you receive an email/call from Allie, it is a last resort and we do apologize for the inconvenience that we have caused.
Q. How far in advanced should I register for a class?
A. At least 1 month before the class. We do take last minute enrollments, so please call for availability.
Q. Do I need to bring any safety equipment or is everything provided?
A. Helmet and fire suit are provided. We suggest you wear tennis shoes for driving (if you don't already have driving shoes). It's also a good idea to wear something that will be comfortable under your driving suit such as shorts or sweats and a T-shirt or sweatshirt depending upon the weather. You are welcome to bring your own equipment if you have it.
Q. Do I need to have prior racing experience or age requirements?
A. The only prerequisite is a valid driver's license and the ability to operate a manual shift transmission (this can be taken care of at the track....we want everyone to enjoy this. If a student is under 18 years old, the parent must be present with the student and sign the insurance waiver.
Q. Do you offer gift certificates?
A. Yes, you can purchase a "Speeding Ticket" gift certificate. The date and the track can be left open for the recipient to decide.
"Speeding Tickets" will expire one year from date of purchase (expiration date is printed on the lower portion of your "Speeding Ticket.")
Q. Can I bring a guest to the track with me?
A. You may bring as many people with you as you would like. We love to see the excitement of the whole family. Also, it is a good way for family/friends to take a Hot Lap Ride Along while they are at the track. You can purchase Hot Laps at the track or on our programs page.
Q. What can guests do while we are at the track?
A. Guests can go almost everywhere drivers go. They can sit in the classroom with the student but are not allowed on Pit Road. Guests are allowed in the Pits, which is the area behind the Pit Road wall. Please do not sit or stand on Pit Road wall, it is very dangerous. Guest can sit in the grandstands, but must be willing to stay there until there is a driving session break. We cannot stop the driving sessions in order to let a guest come back across the track to rejoin the group.
Q. What should I bring with me to the track?
A. We recommend that you bring a cooler, water, sunglasses, sun screen lotion, comfortable clothing (shorts, sweats, t-shirt), tennis shoes, camera and/or video camcorder, and family and friends to watch.
Q. Can I take pictures while at the track?
A. Yes, please feel free to bring your cameras and video cameras. We do ask that for your safety that you do not stand on Pit Road wall or go onto Pit Road while take pictures or videos.
Q. Can I upgrade my course or purchase more laps at the track?
A. You may upgrade your course at while you are at the track. Please see Allie while you are at the track if you are interested and she can go over several different upgrade options.
Q. Is there a penalty for canceling a date and a refund policy?
A. You may reschedule your date at anytime. We understand that events may occur that are beyond your control. Please just give us a call or email to let us know that you need to reschedule. All Hot Laps, Driving Programs and Speeding Tickets are non-refundable and expire one year from the date of purchase. No shows are subject to a 100% forfeiture of all monies paid.
All monies received as a deposit to reserve space is non-refundable.
Q. Do you offer group rates?
A. We offer discounted rates for 5 or more students. If you are interested in an exclusive Corporate event, there are many ways that you can use our programs as promotional events for your company.
